  1. Measure how much electricity you are using: It is important to understand when and where you are spending your money. If you don’t track your consumption you won’t be able to see the impact of making simple changes.
  2. Conduct a walk around survey: Take the time to walk-round your business and learn where energy is being wasted, focusing on the key areas in which savings can be made. These could include heating, lighting and any machinery that is left on when not being used.
  3. Internal communication: Saving energy is a team effort, encourage colleagues to contribute by thinking of ways to save energy. Make it a company-wide project, educate all staff members and get people working together to reduce consumption.
  4. Assign responsibilities: Nominate individuals who will be responsible for specific areas and encourage them to communicate the benefits.
  5. Monitor success: Check your progress by tracking your consumption levels and costs. Review progress, communicate the improvements internally and establish new priorities for action. Saving energy should be an ongoing improvement cycle - there are always positive steps to be made!
